Facebook Business Pages to Get New Video Features
Facebook is starting the new year on the right foot, updating business pages in favor of video-centric a design and features. This update is meant to improve the user experience when it comes to uploading and viewing video content on the said pages.
New Design, Better Features
The company has reportedly been testing a new design as well as a few new features for the video section of business pages since December 2014. It seems the response was positive because business pages of major brands are already sporting the new design. Here’s a screen shot of the new design on ABC News’ Facebook page:Aside from the new design, Facebook is also adding features that will allow users to pick out a featured video and create their own video playlists. The featured video you choose will be displayed in a larger format and placed across the top of the entire video section. This is quite similar to how you featured posts are currently displayed on Facebook pages. Also, all videos will be displayed with the corresponding title and length as well as view and like counts.
Is Facebook Competing Against YouTube?
It’s interesting to note that the new design looks very similar to how YouTube Channel appears. This leads to speculation this update is Facebook’s way of encouraging companies to upload videos directly to their Facebook business pages instead of to websites like YouTube. When you factor in the fact that users these days prefer to upload videos directly to Facebook instead of sharing links to YouTube, it seems likely that the rumors are true. The company would surely benefit from using this kind of momentum to keep users coming. However, Facebook has yet to comment on these rumors. I guess we’ll have to wait until the features have been rolled out to all business pages before we can determine exactly what the company’s goals are. According to TechCrunch, the new video features will be available to all Facebook Pages over next weeks. Page owners won’t have to set up anything because the new video section design will appear automatically.
